Who is LCARI

A forerunner to the The Liberian Students Association of Rhode Island (LCARI) was founded in the 1970s as a support group for Liberian students attending the local colleges and universities. As the population of Liberians in Rhode Island increased, a broader mission was adopted to advance the economic and socio-political needs of the Liberian Community. To meet these challenges, the organization was reorganized in 1982 as the Liberian Community Association of Rhode Island (LCARI).

LCARI, together with local partners, work to make Rhode Island a thriving state where Liberians can live a safe, self-sustainable and successful life.

The organization is collaborating with a coalition of Liberian neighborhood and community leaders to focus on facilitating positive community changes through member-centered organization development. In 2018, the organization has committed itself to increase its’ impact on the Liberian Community in Rhode Island through actions outlined in the 2018-2023 Strategic Plan.
